2021 has been quite a rollercoaster ride, and while we're looking at the upcoming Holiday season with excitement and hope, we also know it brings challenges unlike any other year. We at ASAP want to share our insight on the current state of the industry, and offer our expertise to help you navigate your purchase decisions.

Labor

Across all sectors of the economy, we have seen labor shortages and safety protocols continue to impact production times. This holds true for both our domestic and overseas warehouses. While our factories have been ramping up hiring and retention, we have noticed that production times are generally 5-10% longer than normal, and rush production is suspended for many brand lines. Thankfully, ASAP has cultivated great relationships with our factories to keep abreast of which lines have the most reliable production times.

Inventory

Earlier this year, supply chain challenges led to inventory declining to significantly lower-than-historical levels. While demand across almost all product categories has remained strong, maintaining and growing inventory levels has been problematic in certain sectors. We have seen the biggest shortages in clothing, but also in the categories of tradeshow and event gear, personal care, and leisure & outdoor. Many of our factories show their inventory status online, which allows us to confirm what is available right away.

Logistics

The demand for freight is outstripping the capacity of the current global logistical networks. Overseas shipping costs continue to increase, in some cases more than 10 times what the same container would have cost a year ago. This is compounded by the fact that ports do not have the staff or resources to accommodate all the ships waiting to off-load their products. Ocean deliveries now take 2-3 weeks longer to off-load, plus additional time to then get containers from the port to warehouses and factories across the US. If a product is back ordered, we can estimate an availability date, but it is by no means guaranteed. ASAP has been working diligently to provide alternative products to meet deadlines, and also to update our customers with any delays or new delivery timelines for current projects.

We expect the 4th quarter to be busy throughout, but especially after Cyber Monday, so anything you can do to ship prior to that day would be advised. These adversities make it more important than ever to team up with a trusted partner to make sure your needs are met.
